“I was nervous going in as I’m very picky with my brows as they’re very fair and have never done something like this before, but Lani made me feel so comfortable and explained every step to me.“
What is Cosmetic Tattooing?
Cosmetic tattooing also called permanent makeup (PMU) and micro-pigmentation refers to the process of implanting specialized pigment beneath the surface of the skin with sterile single use needles. Cosmetic tattooing is extremely versatile and has many benefits. It can be designed to resemble make-up, reducing the need for daily makeup application, or it can be very natural and subtle looking for an effective ‘no makeup look’. Whatever your goals are, permanent makeup can enhance your natural look through nano brows and lip blush.
What is Nano Brows?
Nano brows is a technique using a permanent makeup device with a single tiny needle which implants pigment gently and precisely beneath the surface of the skin. This technique is used to create hair strokes and powdered shading.
Is Nano Brows the same as microblading?
NO! The difference lies in the tools and the technique. Microblading uses a handheld manual tool to make small cuts in the skin where the pigment is then placed. Nano technique, on the other hand, makes tiny connective dots, implanting pigment with a single needle to create powdery shading and hair strokes. The biggest difference is that unlike microblading, nano technique creates minimal trauma and is suitable for all skin types.
What is Lip Blush?
Lip blush is a permanent makeup technique that deposits pigment beneath the top layers of the skin on your lips, giving an all-over tint of colour. Lip blush enhances the natural shape and beauty of your lips. It can cure asymmetry, correct discolouration and even add the illusion of volume without the need for injections. This results in a naturally youthful pout.
How long is a cosmetic tattoo appointment?
Approximately 3 hours. This goes for nano brows or lip blush.
Does cosmetic tattooing hurt?
My goal is to have my clients as comfortable as possible from start to finish. Prior to and during your appointment, I use Zensa topical anaesthetic cream which contains 5% lidocaine prior to and during the whole appointment to ensure client comfort. Pain tolerance varies for each individual so it is difficult to predict exactly how it will feel for you. Clients have described the feeling as being similar to tweezing/threading or like a dull scratching. It is also important to consider that sensitivity can be heightened shortly before/during your menstrual cycle.
How long do cosmetic tattoos last?
Cosmetic tattoos can last 1.5-3 year. The longevity will depend greatly on factors such as skin type, aftercare, lifestyle, sun exposure and the pigments used. Fading over time is normal and so annual touchups or ‘colour boosts’ are recommended. Without proper aftercare, things like chemical peels, strong exfoliants, laser, extended sun exposure and iron deficiency might cause your tattoo to fade out a bit faster and has the potential to change the colour of your tattoo.
Do I need a touchup appointment?
A touchup appointment may be required as retention and healed results vary from person to person. A touchup can be performed a minimum of 6 weeks after the initial appointment, once the skin has completely healed. Touch-up fees apply, see pricing.
Is there anything I need to do before the appointment?
Yes, you must follow the pre-appointment instructions and read the after care and policies pages before booking. It is also helpful to have an idea about the style, shape and colour you want by bringing inspiration photos to the appointment. Lip blush clients, remember to bring your favourite lipstick for a custom colour!
Do I need to wax or thread my brows before?
No, it is not necessary. However, if you want to thread/tweeze/tint your brows, that must be done 1 week prior to your appointment. Any hairs that lay outside of the brow design area will be removed to allow for a clean and clear shape.
I have lip filler, can I get Lip Blush?
Yes, absolutely! Lip blush is the perfect enhancement for filled lips. You can have lip blush done 4 weeks after being injected.
Can I get cosmetic tattooing while pregnant or nursing?
No. No exceptions.
I have oily skin, can I get nano hair strokes?
Nano hair stroke style is not recommended for clients with extremely oily skin. The hair strokes will not heal crisp and defined as the overproduction of oil will cause the tattooed strokes to heal blurred. The Powder Brow style is recommended for clients with oily skin.
I had my brows done somewhere else, can you touch them up?
Bos Ink Studio may choose to take on clients with previous microbladed/tattooed brows or previously tattooed lips. This is on a case-by-case basis and will be determined by the artist prior to confirming the appointment. Please send an email and include a photo of your previous tattoo and a description of what your goals are.
I cannot recommend Lani enough! She took the time to ensure both the shape and colour of my brows were spot on; not an easy feat as she was covering up & correcting some less-than-stellar previous brow tattoos I had. She was so open, friendly, and informative throughout the process, putting your mind at ease. My confidence level has gone up so much since getting my brows done, and I’ve received so many compliments. Feeling pretty lucky to have found Bos Beauty here in Kelowna!!

I travelled from Vancouver Island to get my lips tattooed by Lani and I absolutely love them!! I wanted to keep my natural shape and colour, and just slightly straighten out my deep cupid’s bow and she matched my colour perfectly. My number one comment from family/ friends is how natural the result is. Easiest healing ever and a painless procedure (which surprised me!) Highly recommend.
